What buyers need to know
Specifying specials.
Every plant has a handful of fasteners that no catalogue carries: the 900 mm holding-down bolt under a crusher, the U-bolt around a non-standard pipe, the bolt with a shoulder that stops a linkage wearing. Those are the items that hold up a shutdown when the original supplier is on another continent and the lead time is quoted in months.
We make them to drawing. Send a dimensioned sketch, a CAD file, or the worn part itself with the dimensions you can measure, plus the material grade and finish, and we return a manufacturing quotation with a lead time. Where the specification is unclear we come back with questions rather than making assumptions that end up on a pallet.
For anything going into a repeating production run we make a first-article sample for your approval before committing the batch. It adds a week and removes the risk of a container of unusable parts. Common non-standard work includes foundation and holding-down assemblies with template plates, U-bolts and pipe clamps, extra-long and oversize hex bolts, shoulder and stepped bolts, and full kits assembled per position.

Questions
Specials FAQs.
- What do you need to quote a non-standard fastener?
- A dimensioned drawing or sketch, the material grade, the finish, the quantity and the required date. Photographs of the worn part help. If you have a CAD file, send it — it removes interpretation from the quotation.
- What is the lead time on made-to-drawing fasteners?
- Typically four to eight weeks in production plus shipping, depending on process and quantity. Add roughly a week if you want a first-article sample approved before the batch, which we recommend on any repeating item.
- Is there a minimum quantity for specials?
- It depends on the process. Machined parts run economically from small quantities; hot-forged items need volume to justify tooling. We tell you the break point in the quotation rather than after you order.
