Roofing fasteners in Tanzania

What actually moves in this market.

Coastal Tanzania needs the top coating class as a baseline; anything less shows red rust at the fixing head long before the sheet fails, and on a warranted roof that is the installer's problem. Inland, the failure mode is different: dust abrasion and thermal cycling, which punishes the washer rather than the coating.

We supply fixings with bonded EPDM washers as standard for both cases, and quote colour-matched heads where the roof is visible rather than an industrial deck.

Landed into Tanzania

Routing, lead time and specification.

Corridor

Dar es Salaam is the Central Corridor gateway, feeding Tanzania inland as well as Zambia, Burundi, Rwanda and western DRC.

Lead time

6–9 weeks door to door for a container, with a further 3–7 days road transit for up-country and Copperbelt destinations.

Duty and conformity

EAC common external tariff on HS 7318 plus VAT and clearing charges. Tanzania Bureau of Standards conformity requirements apply to imported fasteners, handled through pre-shipment documentation.

Coating for Tanzanian exposure

Dar es Salaam and the coast are aggressively corrosive — hot-dip galvanised as a minimum. Inland mining sites need coatings that survive dust abrasion, so hot-dip galvanised or Dacromet over plating.

Questions from Tanzanian buyers

Roofing fasteners into Tanzania — asked and answered.

Why specify Class 4 on the Tanzanian coast?
Salt-laden air at Dar es Salaam and Tanga corrodes lower-class coatings quickly. Class 4 is the sensible minimum for anything within reach of the sea air.
What fails first on an inland industrial roof?
The sealing washer, not the screw. Dust and thermal cycling harden cheap EPDM until it cracks, so we ship bonded EPDM rather than loose washers.
Can roofing fixings ship with a mining fastener order?
Yes — consolidating roofing into the same container as structural fasteners is usually the cheapest way to move them.
